What’s Included in a Mobile Detail? Full Breakdown

A full mobile detail includes a complete hand wash, wheel and door-jamb cleaning, full interior vacuum, dashboard and panel cleaning with UV protection, and all windows — with deeper packages adding carpet shampoo, seat and leather treatment, machine polishing, and 60 day ceramic sealant. Packages start at $145–$405 for cars, and we bring everything to your driveway: water, power, and equipment.

“Mobile detailing” can mean different things from different providers, some do a glorified car wash, others do a complete transformation. At Fast Lane Detailing Solutions, every package has a specific list of services, and we’re transparent about exactly what’s included at every price point.

How Mobile Detailing Works

Unlike a drive-through car wash or a fixed-location detail shop, mobile detailing comes to you. We arrive at your home, office, or wherever your vehicle is parked with a fully equipped setup, our own water supply, generator for power, pressure washer, vacuum, steam cleaner, polishing tools, and every cleaning product needed for the job.

You don’t need to provide anything. You don’t even need to be home. Just make sure the vehicle is accessible in a driveway or open parking area (tight garages don’t work well for us), and we handle everything from start to finish.

Add-Ons for Extra Dirty Vehicles

Sometimes a standard package isn’t quite enough. If your vehicle has significant extra mess, we offer two add-on tiers:

  • Hot Mess (+$35), For pet hair, excess dirt, moderate kids’ messes. Gives your detailer extra time and tools.
  • It’s Wrecked (+$65), For heavily soiled vehicles that need significant extra cleaning time.

Your detailer may recommend an add-on after seeing the vehicle’s condition. We always check with you before adding anything to the bill.

What Mobile Detailing Does NOT Include

We’re upfront about what we don’t do:

  • Headliner cleaning, Most headliners have a cardboard backing that can be damaged by wet cleaning. We skip this to avoid causing sagging or delamination.
  • Engine bay detailing, Not included in standard packages. Contact us if you need this as a standalone service.
  • Paintless dent repair, window tinting, or body work, We’re detailers, not a body shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which package should I choose?

For most people, the Deluxe is the sweet spot. It covers both inside and out with enough depth to handle a vehicle that’s been driven regularly for a few weeks. If your car is in good shape and just needs a refresh, Essential works. If you want paint correction and long-lasting protection, go Superior — our ceramic coating vs wax guide explains how sealants and coatings compare.

How do I know what size category my vehicle is?

We have five size categories: Car, Compact/Midsize SUV, Minivan, Truck, and Large/X-Large SUV/Truck/Van. Check our packages page for examples of what falls in each category. When in doubt, book the closest match and we’ll confirm before starting.

What if my vehicle needs more work than the package covers?

Our detailer will assess the vehicle when they arrive. If it needs an add-on (Hot Mess or It’s Wrecked), they’ll discuss it with you before proceeding. You’ll never be charged for something you didn’t agree to.

Ceramic Coating vs Wax: Which Is Right for Your Vehicle?

Short answer: for most DFW drivers, professional ceramic coating is the better long-term choice, it lasts 2–5+ years versus 1–3 months for wax and stands up far better to the Texas sun. Wax wins on upfront cost and is fine for short-term shine. Over a few years, one coating often costs about the same as repeated waxing while protecting much better.

They both add shine and protection, but they work very differently, last different amounts of time, and cost different amounts. Here’s a straightforward breakdown to help you decide which makes sense for your situation.

What Is Traditional Wax?

Wax is a topical product, usually carnauba-based or synthetic, that sits on top of your paint’s clear coat. It adds gloss, fills in minor imperfections, and creates a temporary barrier against water, dirt, and UV rays. It’s been the standard paint protection method for decades.

How long it lasts: 1-3 months, depending on the product, weather exposure, and how often you wash the vehicle.

What Is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your vehicle’s clear coat. Instead of sitting on top of the paint like wax, it becomes part of the surface. This creates a semi-permanent layer of protection that’s much harder, more durable, and longer-lasting than any wax.

How long it lasts: 2-5+ years depending on the product tier and maintenance.

Head-to-Head Comparison

Factor Traditional Wax Ceramic Coating
Durability 1-3 months 2-5+ years
Gloss level Good Exceptional
Hydrophobic (water repelling) Moderate Excellent
UV protection Mild Strong
Chemical resistance Low High
Scratch resistance None Minor scratch resistance
Application DIY-friendly Professional application recommended
Upfront cost Low ($20-50 for product) Higher (professional service)
Maintenance Reapply every 1-3 months Regular washes, occasional boost spray

When Wax Makes More Sense

  • You’re on a tight budget and want basic protection now
  • You enjoy DIY car care and don’t mind reapplying regularly
  • You’re selling the vehicle soon and just want it to look good for a few weeks
  • It’s a beater or daily driver you’re not trying to preserve long-term

When Ceramic Coating Makes More Sense

  • You plan to keep the vehicle for more than a year or two
  • You want less maintenance, coated vehicles are easier to wash and stay cleaner longer
  • You care about paint quality, the gloss and depth from a coating is noticeably better than wax
  • You park outside, coating provides far better UV and environmental protection
  • You have a premium vehicle, protecting a $50K+ paint job with a coating is a smart investment

The Middle Ground: 60 day ceramic sealant

There’s a third option that sits between wax and full ceramic coating: 60 day ceramic sealant. It’s a wipe-on product that lasts 3-6 months, significantly longer than wax, but not as permanent as a professional coating. Our Superior detailing package includes a 60 day ceramic sealant application, which is a great way to experience ceramic-level protection without the full coating investment.

What We Offer at Fast Lane Detailing

We provide both options:

  • 60 day ceramic sealant is included in our Superior package (starting at $405 for cars) and our Exterior Only package (starting at $145 for cars). It lasts 3-6 months and provides excellent protection between full details.
  • Professional ceramic coating is a standalone service with custom pricing based on your vehicle’s size and paint condition. Learn more about our ceramic coating service.

Either way you go, regular care keeps the results looking new, see our guides on how often to detail your car in DFW and what’s included in a full mobile detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put wax over ceramic coating?

You can, but there’s no real benefit. The coating is already providing better protection and gloss than wax can. If you want to boost a coating’s hydrophobic properties, use a ceramic boost spray instead of traditional wax.

Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?

It provides minor scratch resistance, light surface marring that would normally affect bare clear coat may not show on a coated surface. But ceramic coating won’t protect against rock chips, key scratches, or significant impacts. It’s paint protection, not body armor.

Is ceramic coating worth the cost?

If you do the math on reapplying wax every 2-3 months over 3 years versus one ceramic coating application that lasts the same period, the coating often comes out similar or ahead, plus you get better protection and less maintenance effort throughout.

Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?

It’s strongly recommended. A coating amplifies everything, good and bad. If your paint has swirl marks or scratches, the coating will lock those in and make them more visible under the gloss. Paint correction before coating ensures you’re sealing in a flawless finish.

How Often Should You Detail Your Car? A DFW Guide

For most drivers in the DFW area, a full detail every 4–6 weeks keeps your vehicle in great shape. Garage-kept and lightly driven? You can stretch it to every 2–3 months. Parked outside, driven daily, or hauling kids and pets? Every 3–4 weeks is ideal. Beyond that, it depends on how you use your vehicle, where you park it, and what level of clean you want to maintain — and living in the DFW metroplex gives us some specific factors to work with.

The Short Answer

For most vehicle owners in the DFW area, a full detail every 4-6 weeks keeps your vehicle in great shape. If your car lives in a garage and sees light use, you can stretch that to every 2-3 months. If it’s parked outside, driven daily, or hauling kids and pets, every 3-4 weeks is ideal.

Factors That Affect How Often You Need Detailing in DFW

The Texas Sun

UV exposure is one of the biggest threats to your paint and interior in DFW. Vehicles parked outside in direct sun experience faster oxidation, dashboard cracking, and seat fading. If your car sits outside most of the time, more frequent exterior details with UV-protective products help preserve your clear coat and interior surfaces.

Daily Commutes and Highway Driving

If you’re commuting on I-30, I-35W, or the 820 loop daily, your vehicle picks up road grime, brake dust, bug splatter, and micro-debris faster than a car that stays in the neighborhood. Highway drivers benefit from more frequent exterior maintenance.

Kids and Pets

This one is straightforward, if your backseat regularly hosts kids, car seats, or dogs, the interior needs more frequent attention. Spills, crumbs, pet hair, and general chaos accumulate fast. Our Deluxe package with carpet shampoo and seat treatment is designed for exactly this.

Parking Situation

Garage-kept vehicles stay cleaner longer. If your car lives in a garage overnight and parks in a covered spot at work, you can go longer between details. Vehicles that live on the street or in open lots need more frequent care to counteract dust, pollen, bird droppings, and tree sap.

A Simple Schedule to Follow

Vehicle Use Recommended Frequency Best Package
Garage-kept, light use Every 2-3 months Essential ($175+ for cars)
Daily driver, parked outside Every 4-6 weeks Deluxe ($235+ for cars)
Family vehicle, kids/pets Every 3-4 weeks Deluxe + Hot Mess add-on
Luxury/enthusiast vehicle Every 2-4 weeks Deluxe or Superior ($405+ for cars)
Work truck / fleet vehicle Every 2-4 weeks Essential or Deluxe

What Happens If You Wait Too Long

Detailing isn’t just cosmetic, it’s maintenance. When you go too long between details:

  • Paint damage compounds. Contaminants like bird droppings, tree sap, and industrial fallout etch into your clear coat the longer they sit. What could have been wiped off after a week becomes a permanent mark after a month.
  • Interior stains set. A coffee spill cleaned within a few days comes out easily. That same stain after a month of being ground into the carpet is a different story.
  • You end up paying more. A vehicle that’s been neglected for 6+ months often needs add-ons like our Hot Mess (+$35) or It’s Wrecked (+$65) upgrade because there’s significantly more work involved.

The Easiest Way to Stay on Schedule

If you don’t want to think about when to book your next detail, our subscription program handles it for you. Choose bi-weekly or monthly service, pick your package, and we show up on schedule with priority booking and discounted rates. You don’t even need to be home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is detailing worth it if I wash my car at home?

A home wash handles surface dirt, but it doesn’t address paint decontamination (clay bar), interior deep cleaning (carpet shampoo, seat treatment), or protective coatings (60 day ceramic sealant). Detailing goes deeper and protects longer — see exactly what’s included in a full mobile detail.

How long does a detail last?

Visually, a thorough detail looks great for 2-4 weeks depending on conditions. The protective products (60 day ceramic sealant, UV protectant) continue working for 3-6 months. That’s why regular detailing builds on itself, each visit maintains the protection from the last. For longer-lasting protection, read our ceramic coating vs wax comparison.

Can I detail too often?

For standard wash-and-protect details, no, you can’t over-detail. The products we use are designed for regular application. The only service to be cautious with is paint correction (machine polishing), which removes a thin layer of clear coat and should only be done when defects are actually present.

What’s the best time of year to detail in DFW?

Every season has its reasons. Spring brings pollen. Summer brings UV damage and bug splatter. Fall brings tree debris. Winter brings road grime. The best time is whenever your vehicle needs it, there’s no bad season for a detail in Texas.
