Paint correction is paint removal. That is the whole job.
Your clear coat is not scratched on top. It is scratched into. The only way to make a swirl disappear is to level the clear coat down to the bottom of it with an abrasive and a machine. Anything that does it faster than that is filling it, not fixing it.
That distinction is the entire trade. A glaze, a filler polish or a heavy wax will make a swirled black car look spectacular in the bay and then look swirled again after two or three washes, because the filler washed out and the scratch was always still there. A correction does not come back, because there is nothing left to come back to.
It also means correction is finite. You have a few thousandths of an inch of clear coat and every correction spends some of it. That is why we do not reach for the most aggressive pad and compound that will work. We use the least aggressive combination that removes the defect, because the goal is a car that can be corrected again in five years, not a car that looks incredible once and then has nothing left.
We test before we commit
Every car gets a test section before the whole panel gets touched. Paint hardness varies wildly between manufacturers, and the pad and compound that works on a soft Japanese clear coat will barely mark a hard German one. Guessing on that is how people burn through paint.

How to read a paint correction quote
Correction is the easiest detailing service in the world to fake, because the fake looks identical to the real thing for about two weeks. Here is how to tell them apart before you pay.
1. Ask how many hours the job is
A real one step correction on a car is around three hours of actual work, and that is after the wash and the clay. If somebody is quoting you a correction and a full detail in two hours total, the machine never touched the paint for long enough to level anything.
2. Ask what goes on top
Fresh corrected paint is bare. It has just had its old protection polished off, and it needs something laid over it the same day. Ours gets a 60 day ceramic sealant as standard, or a multi year ceramic coating if you upgrade. If the answer is “nothing” or “a spray wax”, you are paying correction money for two weeks of results.
3. Ask whether they do a test section
Anybody correcting paint without testing the pad and compound on a small area first is guessing at how hard your clear coat is. On a soft clear coat that guess puts new marring in. On a thin one it does worse.
4. Ask what happens to deep scratches
If the answer is “we will get everything out”, walk. Nobody can promise that without seeing the car, and a scratch you can catch a fingernail in is usually through the clear coat, which means levelling it flat would take more clear than the car can spare.
5. Ask to see the car in the sun
Shop lighting hides a lot. Real correction work holds up in direct sunlight at an angle, which is exactly where swirls show worst. Ask for the walk-around outside before you pay, on any correction, from anyone.
A note on the buzzwords
“Cut and buff”, “restoration polish” and “gloss enhancement” are not defined terms and can mean anything from a genuine two stage correction to a wipe-on filler. The words do not tell you anything. The hours and what goes on top do.

What paint correction will not do
It will not remove every scratch
If your fingernail catches in it, the scratch is into or through the clear coat. Levelling the surrounding clear down to the bottom of that scratch usually costs more clear coat than the car can afford to lose. We will tell you which of your defects are coming out and which are staying, before we start.
It will not fix rock chips
A chip is missing paint, not scratched paint. Polishing cannot put paint back. Chips are a touch-up or a respray, and if you want to stop new ones, that is paint protection film, which is a different product entirely.
It is not permanent, because you keep washing the car
Correction resets the paint. What puts swirls back in is how the car gets washed after. Automatic tunnels and a single dirty sponge will re-swirl a freshly corrected car faster than anything else on earth. A two bucket wash or our maintenance program keeps it.
It cannot be done forever
Every correction spends clear coat. A car can usually take a handful over its life, which is plenty, but it is the reason we use the least aggressive approach that works instead of the fastest one.

Can you correct matte or satin paint?
Yes. It does not need a matte specific product, it needs someone who understands that a high spot on matte cannot be polished out the way it can on gloss, and that over-buffing will put a shine into a panel that is meant to be flat. That is experience, not a bottle. Tell us it is matte when you book so we allow the right time.
Do you come to me, or do I drop the car off?
